Alcoholism is the devastating fatal disease negatively affects the individual, family and society at large. It is progressive and harmful that dominates thinking and emotions of the alcoholic and produces severe consequences onphysical and psychological well-being. Stress and disregulation of emotions is the important contributing factor of addiction and relapse susceptibility Growing evidence suggests perceived stress, emotion regulation underlie clinically relevant behaviors and psychological difficulties among the alcoholics. In response to these problems researcher incorporates a focuseson reducing perceived stress, difficulties in emotion regulation developed an intervention program based on acceptance and commitment strategy along with mindfulness. The study has two phases; ACTP program development and assessment ofthe effectiveness program in reducing perceived stress and emotion regulation difficulty thereby total abstinence and replacement of addictive pattern of behavior through experimental methods. Total 32 alcohol dependence randomly assigned to control and experimental situation. Two scales perceived stress (PSS-14) and difficulties in emotion regulation (DERS) were administered. The mean, paired sample t-test, MANOVA and Cohen's d were utilized for data analysts. The null hypothesis tested at 0.05 level of significant. Pre-test and post-test scores ofthe experimental group showed significant difference (P=0.00) thatrevealedthe effectiveness of ACTP program.Keywords

Aim: A descriptive study was conducted to assess the perception of nursing students towards spiritual care in a selected college of nursing in Ernakulum District, Kerala. Background: In order for nursing education to prepare nurses for holistic patient care, it is critical that educators become more aware of the religious and spiritual dimensions in patient care and be able to provide adequate knowledge and skills for nurses to offer spiritually- based care in an ethical way. Furthermore, spiritual care is an essential component in the nursing context, as nurses have to care for patients who may often turn to the spiritual dimension to cope and heal. These aspects are important issues to be considered in planning what should be taught as part of spiritual care. Objectives: The objectives of this study were to assess the spirituality and perception towards spiritual care among nursing students and to assess the relationship between the same. Methods: A Descriptive analytical study was conducted among 129 BSc Nursing students studying in a Nursing College attached to a Medical College Hospital of South India. Convenience sampling technique was adopted for the study. Spirituality assessment scale and Nursing Spiritual Care Perspective Scale (NSCPS) were used to collect the data. Pilot study was conducted and the study was found to be feasible. Permission from the authorities was obtained and data collection was done. The data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics and R software used for the analysis. Results: The study revealed that there was a statistically significant mild positive correlation between spirituality and nurse’s perception towards spiritual care (r=0.23, p and lt;0.01). Conclusion: Spirituality is a significant concept for the discipline of nursing with profound consequences for caring patients. Spirituality is an important aspect of holistic care. This study identified that there is a significant mild positive correlation between spirituality and spiritual care. The study found that nurses were very accepting of the need for spiritual care as part of their nursing role but that nursing education had not paid adequate attention to integrating this dimension into the nursing curriculum.Keywords

Cancer is a group of more than 200 diseases characterized by uncontrolled and unregulated growth of cells. Breast cancer is probably the most feared among women, due to its high incidence, and above all, to the psychological effects that affect their perception of sexuality and their self image. An early diagnosis is the best guarantee of success in the treatment of breast cancer and the woman gives a relevant contribution in the early detection when she systematically does the self-examination. The objectives of this study were to assess the effectiveness of video-assisted teaching programme on knowledge and skill regarding prevention of breast cancer among the nuns and to find the association between the pre-test knowledge level and pre-test skill with selected demographic variables. A quantitative one group pre-test post-test design (quasi experimental) was adopted for the study. The conceptual framework of this study was based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) presented by Rosenstoch’s (1974) and Becker and Maiman’s (1975). Thirty nuns were selected by non probability purposive sampling technique. Video-assisted teaching was administered to the samples after the pre-testing of both knowledge and skill. Data was collected by using demographic proforma, structured knowledge questionnaire and observational checklist. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The data concerning the effectiveness of video-assisted teaching was established by analyzing the pre-test and post-test knowledge score and skill of the respondents. In order to find out the effectiveness of video-assisted teaching on prevention of breast cancer of experimental group, paired ‘t’ was computed. The computed ‘t’ value of knowledge score and skill (11.0 and 15.5) was greater than the table value (t29=2.05; p<0.05). This represented that video-assisted teaching was effective in improving the level of knowledge and skill of nuns on prevention of breast cancer. Chi-square test was used to test the significant association between pre-test knowledge scores and skill in performing BSE with selected demographic variables. The test revealed that there was no significant association between pre-test knowledge scores and selected demographic variables at 0.05 level of significance. On the other hand, it showed a significant association between the pre-test skill and the demographic variables namely, educational qualification and awareness of samples with relatives, friends or colleagues with breast cancer. The study concluded that the video-assisted teaching programme for nuns significantly improved their understanding and skill on prevention of breast cancer.Keywords
